Draft Strategy Framework Beyond 2020

The beginning of the new decade also marks the beginning of a new phase for JPI Oceans, starting with the revision of the JPI Oceans strategy framework. The new strategic framework is meant to refresh the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda under which JPI Oceans is operating in the six-year period since 2015, providing the building blocks for a coherent and successful pathway beyond 2020.

The new framework builds upon the existing design, vision and scope of JPI Oceans, adopting a new lens shaped by and responding to the external international developments that emerged since the adoption of the SRIA 2015-2020. To make the revision process thorough and inclusive, the draft Strategy Framework was published online on Monday 17 August 2020 and a survey opened to stakeholders for feedback. The Chair of JPI Oceans Management Board Arvid Hallén, Vice Chairs Corinne Muscat-Terribile and Joachim Harms, and Executive Director Thorsten Kiefer presented the first draft of the revised Strategic Framework, its revision process timeline, its goals and objectives, and priority areas (Ocean Health, Ocean Productivity and Ocean Stewardship & Governance) at a Stakeholder Webinar on 24 August 2020.

The feedback received, along with the feedback from parallel national consultations, has been condensed into a new draft that will be tabled for adoption at the 22nd JPI Oceans Management Board Meeting in November 2020.
