Advanced Training course in Marine Biotechnologies

The BlueBio ERANET COFUND coordinates an R&D funding scheme to strengthen Europe’s position in the blue bioeconomy and addresses gaps to finally identify ways of bringing bio-based products and services to the market and find new ways of creating value from in the blue bioeconomy. An important part of this strengthening is Human Capacity Building in the blue bioeconomy, to contribute to improving the professional skills and competences of those working and being trained to work within the blue bioeconomy, by offering training courses and knowledge exchanges within and outside BlueBio.

The course on “Blue Bio-refinery technologies: from research to the industry with applications on products and biomaterial from algal biomass and sidestreams of fisheries and aquaculture” is supported by ERA-NET Cofund on Blue Bioeconomy Unlocking the Potential of Aquatic Bioresources (BlueBio), co-organised with the National Research Council (CNR Italy) and the University of Foggia (Italy), with the patronage of the European Society of Marine Biotechnology (ESMB). The goal of the course is to improve technological knowledge on biorefinery processes, theoretical and practical approach. The target to address the course is PhD holders and/or experienced people in the field (priority researchers from BlueBio ERANET COFUND projects).

BlueBio has also organised a joint training course on blue biotechnologies with BlueMed CSA in March 2021, aimed at filling knowledge gaps while matching market opportunities via a joint effort among the scientific community, research infrastructures and business operators. The program will offer the opportunity of increasing awareness about marine biotechnology purposes, and also promoting the progress of the research results through the pipeline up to the market, identifying technological and legal bottlenecks step by step and prospecting solutions.
