Road to Nice: JPI Oceans prepares for two landmark ocean events

This June, JPI Oceans will attend two major international gatherings: the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC) and the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), both held in Nice, France. From deep-sea mining to microplastics, we will present the scientific results of our Joint Actions and deliver policy-relevant insights.

JPI Oceans' Management Board at its 33rd meeting in Brussels steered the development of ongoing and future work and firmed up the contours of a new 2026-2030 Strategy Framework document, coming at the end of the year.

Talking Blue at the Climate COP

JPI Oceans participated in the COP28, contributing to the growing swell of ocean-related dialogues in and around the negotiations in Dubai. JPI Oceans’ focus was particularly on fathoming whether the Ocean Carbon Capacities Joint Action can be weaved into a collaboration across the North Atlantic.

At its 25th Meeting in November 2021, the JPI Oceans Management Board approved the Scoping Action on Ocean Carbon Capacities to formally become a new JPI Oceans Joint Action.
