Aquatic Pollutants

In an unprecedented collaboration, the three JPIs on Water, Oceans and Antimicrobial Resistance, together with European Commission aim to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing society – the presence of pollutants and pathogens in water resources.

Blue Bioeconomy

The BlueBio ERA-Net Cofund is the result of a collaboration between JPI Oceans and the former ERA-NETS COFASP and ERA MBT, consisting of 30 partners from 17 countries and aims to strengthen Europe’s position in the blue bioeconomy.

Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment

The Joint Action Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment aims to decrease the high level of uncertainty about the impact of noise through the promotion of specific lines of scientific research.

MarTERA is an ERA-NET Cofund scheme of Horizon 2020 with an overall goal to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) in maritime and marine technologies as well as Blue Growth.

Climate Science for Oceans

In a joint effort with JPI Climate, this action aims to fund research on ocean-climate interactions, to improve climate models and inform climate change adaptation policies in Europe.

Ecological Aspects of Microplastics

The Joint Action Ecological Aspects of Microplastics was launched as one of JPI Oceans’ pilot activities, to study the sources, distribution and impact of microplastics in the marine environment.

Munition in the Sea

The Knowledge Hub on Munition in the Sea constitutes a multi-national expert group which aims to coordinate research and innovation to assess risks, define priorities and suggest intervention options concerning legacy munitions in the marine environment.

For this Joint Action, the Belmont Forum, JPI Oceans and Future Earth have joined forces for this Collaborative Research Action (CRA) on Transdisciplinary Research for Ocean Sustainability.

Ocean Carbon Capacities

The JPI Oceans Knowledge Hub Ocean Carbon Capacities will address and reduce uncertainties in the understanding of the ocean’s buffering and carbon storage capacities.

Science for Good Environmental Status

Light and Colour in the Ocean

The Scoping Action on Light and Colour in the Ocean looks into how a JPI Oceans Joint Action could enhance knowledge and understanding of the impacts of lightening and darkening of the ocean through artificial light and turbidity, respectively.

Joint Call for Proposals on Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment

Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain under the framework of JPI Oceans and together with BANOS, BlueMed, NOAA and the UN Ocean Decade, are pleased to launch this call, with a deadline for proposals on 28 February 2022.

The MarTERA Cofund launched a fourth joint call for transnational research and innovation projects on on maritime and marine technologies with a total funding budget of EUR 8.5 million.

JPI Climate & JPI Oceans Joint Transnational Call on Next Generation Climate Science in Europe for Oceans. The joint call is supported by 9 countries with a total budget of 8.6 million EUR.

Joint call for proposals on microplastics in the marine environment

Thirteen JPI Oceans member countries together with Latvia and Brazil launch a call for transnational research projects of approx. 10.5 million EUR to study the sources, distribution and impact of microplastics in the marine environment.

Transdisciplinary Research for Ocean Sustainability Joint Call

The Belmont Forum, in collaboration with Future Earth and JPI Oceans, launches a call of circa 16 million EUR of cash and in-kind resources aiming at bringing together researchers and other expertise across the globe to innovate solutions to accelerate sustainable use of oceans and minimize the effects from global change.

BlueBio 3rd Additional Call – Amplifying project reach and knowledge impact

The BlueBio ERA-Net is launching its 3rd Additional Call in November 2022. The call is open to organisations that are part of any project consortium that is currently funded by the BlueBio ERA-Net Cofund and that are funded by one of the BlueBio partners that are providing funding to this third additional call.
