As in previous years, JPI Oceans offers interested stakeholders the opportunity to bring innovative ideas and emerging topics to the attention of our member countries. We want to hear about innovative topics and emerging challenges in ocean research and innovation that could benefit from coordinated, trans-national action. JPI Oceans considers the submitted ideas and may select the most promising for further development into a Joint Action.
Which topic do you propose should be explored through trans-national R&I, how could a related Joint Action be implemented, and where can JPI Oceans add value and complementarity to existing efforts? Let us know, keeping in mind that novelty is a particularly appreciated trait in JPI Oceans.
Ideas should also align with the thematic scopes set out in the new JPI Oceans Strategy 2026-30, which we encourage you review before submitting. In previous rounds of idea solicitation, we managed to adopt up to three of the shared topics for scoping towards becoming a Joint Action. Last year, submissions led to scoping the potential of plastic-associated chemical pollution, offshore infrastructures and electromagnetic effects. Earlier rounds resulted in active Joint Actions including European Marinas Network, Offshore Freshened Groundwater, and Ocean Oxygen Loss.
For an idea to be developed further by JPI Oceans, at least one of our member countries needs to be willing to lead the further scoping and later implementation, at least four of the member countries need to approve and support the activity, and JPI Oceans needs to have the necessary management resources.
Submitted ideas will be pre-screened for their feasibility by the JPI Oceans Secretariat and then considered for discussion by our Management Board.
Deadline for submissions: 7 September 2026.
The submission form is straightforward: a few tick boxes and a maximum of two pages of writing, so we warmly encourage you to take the step and share your ideas with us. Fill out the form below!
