In anticipation of the upcoming UN Ocean Decade Conference in April, JPI Oceans adds its two latest Joint Actions to its portfolio of endorsements under the UN Ocean Decade. JPI Oceans is also preparing to contribute to the UN Ocean Decade Conference with three satellite events.
Ocean Literacy in Action at the European Ocean Days

The Ocean Literacy in Action event, fifth of the European Ocean Days, saw a vibrant gathering of stakeholders dedicated to furthering Ocean Literacy. JPI Oceans presented the ANDROMEDA project and JPI Oceans’ Lavinia Giulia Pomarico was master of ceremonies. JPI Oceans’ new communication officer Lisa Picatto moderated the panel session on Ocean Literacy as a pre-condition for a sustainable blue economy.
JPI Oceans hosts All-Atlantic Coordination and Support Action kick-off

The kick-off meeting, held at the JPI Oceans Secretariat on 7-8 March 2024, marks the start of the OKEANO Coordination and Support Action (CSA), supporting the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA).

The Joint Action Ecological Aspects of Microplastics was launched as one of JPI Oceans’ pilot activities, to study the sources, distribution and impact of microplastics in the marine environment.

All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance
The All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance is the result of science diplomacy efforts involving countries from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, aiming at enhancing marine research and innovation cooperation across the Atlantic anywhere between the Arctic and Antarctica.
European Ocean Observing System
The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) framework promotes ocean observing in Europe by means of collaboration, coordination and integration among the relevant key people, institutions and facilities. JPI Oceans chairs a Resource Forum for EOOS.
